Myanmar wins first medal of 27th SEA Games

Myanmar women's Chinlone team makes the history by winning the first gold medal of the 27th SEA Games after securing 535 points in total in the final of Women's Linking event.
Myanmar women's team, composed of 12 athletes, topped the table in the five-team group in the morning and played final with the runners-up Thailand.
Six countries, namely host Myanmar, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Singapore and Thailand participated the six-day sport of four Chinlone events from Dec 4 to 9.
Each member of the six-athlete team enters the circle marked on the floor one after another for dribbling a Chinlone with several set touches without letting it fall during 10-minute section.
The teams play three-sets, 10 minutes in each set and every single touch is observed for points or reductions.
The Chinlone event, Myanmar's traditional sport, kicked started the 27th SEA Games, the biggest biennial multi-sport tournament of the Southeast Asia region Wednesday at 5000-seat Wunna Theikdi Indoor Stadium, Nay Pyi Taw.
Chinlone, a ball made of cane, is Myanmar's century-old sport played by men of all ages, on the roadsides, in the yards, or in the covered Chinlone houses.
Chinlone performers are invited to celebrate the famous Pagoda festivals with their show of Chinlone play.
